If you think about this problem logically, you'll see that a lot of the info it gives you is extraneous.

Statement 1 tells us about next time, but it doesn't tell us about last time.
Statement 2 tells us about last time, but it doesn't tell us about next time.

But them together, we know that he'll use half the # of cups of pasta that he used last time (3 cups). So the answer is C.
