I noticed that a couple applications have an additional section asking about community involvement, professional involvement, and honors/awards. A lot of this information is addressed in my essays and on my resume as well; should I bother to put down this information in this section even though it would be redundant? Each box is typically only 300-500 characters anyways; I'm not sure if filling this out adds to my overall application. Thanks in advance.

Well Yes you should put items here. Look at every single space on the application as an OPPORTUNITY. Which means that instead of writing the SAME thing, you should be using the extra space to also try and write different things! Of course there will be some overlap, but yes use the space, especially with your most impressive items.

Thanks for the insight, I'll try and add some more useful information. The problem to me was the character limit conundrum; 300-500 characters pretty much allows me to list what I did but without the details. I can't just list details without prefacing what it is, you know what I mean lol. I guess I'll just figure out the best way around this; thanks again for your insight.

Best approach - limit yourself to CONCRETE actions and results. Like "Landed 5$ Million client" BAM!
That tells 'em something.
