An overly centralized economy ,not the changes in the climate, is responsible for the poor agricultural production in country x since its new government came to power.Neighbouring country y has experienced the climatic conditions, but while agricultural production has been falling in country x, it has been rising in country y.

Which of the following,if trye, would most weaken the argument above?

(A) industrial production also is decining in country x
(B)Whereas country Y is lanlocked,Country X has amajor seaport
(C)Both Country X and Country Y have been experiencing drought conditions
(D)The crops that have always been grown in country X are different from those that have always been grown in country Y
(E)county X's new government instituted a centralized economy with the intention of ensuring an equitable distribution of goods.

OA - D

Lets add another option (F) :
Poor quality of agricultural seeds that are produced by a single company and are in use since the overly centralized economy came into effect has affected the agricultural production in X

Pls consider (F) also and suggest whether you will pick the OA
(ie D)
or F as the answer - pls explain your reasoning.

Is it any coincidence that anti-Keynsian GMAT passages are almost always "weaken the argument" passages???

Errr, anyhow, yes I would go with D here. Climate changes could have different affects on different crop types. It's the only choice that does weaken the argument. F isn't sufficiently worded. When did the deficient seeds come into general use? Before, after, or at the same time as the overly centralized economic planning came in to play?

Very good point. I have just edited F. Lets discuss again:
