[CR][Reimburse] HSPA posts

by HSPA » Wed Jul 13, 2011 8:38 am
Federal law prohibits businesses from reimbursing any employees for the cost of owning and operating a privateaircraft that is used for business purposes. Thus, many American companies themselves purchase private aircraft. The vast majority of the business aviation fleet is owned by small and mid-size businesses, and flights are strictlyfor business purposes, with mostly mid-level employees on board. These companies and their boards of directorsare in full compliance with the law and with what is best for their businesses.

Which of the following can be most properly inferred from the statements above?

"¢The Federal law in question costs businesses money.

"¢Most executives would rather fly on company owned planes than on commercial airlines.

"¢Large businesses usually have their executives fly first or business class on commercial flights.

"¢Upper level executives are less often in compliance with the law.

"¢By not receiving any reimbursement for these flights, the mid-level executives on board are complying with thelaw.

(A)Possible contender
(B)Makes assumption about executives preferences. Can't do that on an inference question.Incorrect.
(C)Makes an assumption.Not allowed. Incorrect
(D)Assumptive.Incorrect.
(E)Possible contender

So its either
(A)
or
(E)
. Can't seem to narrow it down any further...Whats the OA?

I'm also stuck between A and E. On one hand, the cost of owning and operating a private aircraft would be the same to the company whether it owned the aircraft itself or reimbursed an employee. On the other, no mention is made on whether the employees comply with the laws, only the company and the board. Both answer choices seem to be a stretch.

B) Most executives would rather fly on company owned planes than on commercial airlines. Out of scope. No mention is made of the preference between commercial and company-owned planes.

C) Large businesses usually have their executives fly first or business class on commercial flights. Out of scope. Company practice on commercial flights is not mentioned.

D) Upper level executives are less often in compliance with the law. Out of scope. The passage discusses mid-level employees.
