Accepted: Now where to start with Aid.

by dgh44 » Mon Nov 21, 2011 1:15 pm
Hello everyone,

I am pleased to say that I have been accepted to my number one MBA program. Now I am in the process of figuring out how to get as much financial help as possible.

I want to focus my efforts primarily on Scholarships and Grants. I want to start with aid that I do not have to pay back.

There is just so much information out there that I could use a little direction from some of you "experienced" folks out there.

Thank you

Hey dgh44 - CONGRATS (again!)!!

Best bet: Start with your school's financial aid office. They will be able to steer you in the right direction. There's not nearly so much "free" money available for MBA students as for other types of undergrad/grad studies, because there's a proven ROI on the education. Often, the money that is available is earmarked for underrepresented groups like women and US minorities, or for those going into nonprofit or less lucrative careers. All schools also have merit-based awards, and the fact that you applied early means that you should be in the running for any that are available. Many schools also will automatically consider all accepted students for all available funding, though for some schools there's an additional application process for some or all awards.

So, check in with your school, they will have all the resources to begin with. We don't often hear of other MBA scholarship money offered through channels outside the school, but you never know, there's likely to be plenty of stuff coming up through a Google seaerch. Start with the school and see where that takes you initially though.

Again, congrats, and keep us posted on how it goes for you!!

And HAVE FUN WITH IT!! Bschool is an absolute blast, though also overwhelming and a lot of work! The fun has just begun!
