I have two questions.

Firstly, there is gab of 3 years between school and starting of college due to financial circumstances. Will that be cause of worry? If Yes, Any ways to negate it?

Secondly My GPA is not spectacular as I was involved in a lot of things in my Undergrad. How can i overcome that.

I am targeting Top Tier schools lie Wharton, Sloan, Booth, Tuck and HBS. Do you think I have a shot at these or do i need to rethink my school selection.

Thanks in advance

Dear rednblue,

The admissions committee will not be aware of a gap between secondary school and university unless you choose to disclose it. Most programs do not ask when you graduated from high school, only your dates in college, so it will not be known. In the event you are asked, putting off college for a few years is not a negative; you just might want to write a few sentences in an optional essay or additional info paragraph that you had to wait to enroll due to financial circumstances.

You will need to address a sub-par GPA though in an optional essay/additional info paragraph. While you will want to note mitigating circumstances like employment or substantial leadership in extracurriculars, you also need to provide evidence that you will perform better in business school.

I do think you have a chance at a top tier program with a strong application package. Your essays, recommendations and interviews will be key to your ultimate decisions. However, it is prudent to have a mix of schools on your list, not just top tier, if your goal is to be in business school in 2012.

Good luck,
Lisa
