An author once wrote that "The invention of the telephone prevents us from appreciating the distance between us." Today this is even more true as the rise of the Internet has enabled inexpensive global communication.

"Our technology has exceeded our humanity" said Albert Einstein some years ago. Indeed, Internet and telecommunication have a strong impact on out modern society, creating invaluable opportunities and providing new fields for development. Some people consider, for example, that Internet has presented new kind of global communication, allowing immediate connection between two persons from different countries or even different continents. Hence, Internet is taken nowadays as the most powerful communication tool. Other people claim that modern technology separates people from close contact with each other and somehow makes us more lonely and distanced. Though the two arguments may well have merit, I consider that Internet and modern communication is the best way to connect with a person and to diminish the barrier of large distances.
Firstly, via Internet we could easily access different points and different people by e-mail and Facebook. Moreover, we could talk to a girl in China or blog in the Facebook site of Madonna at the same time without getting out of our room. A vivid example of the power of that technology is the war in Iraq, where military actions and operations have been viewed by millions of people around the world by Internet satellite connection between the battle filed and the receivers. Without such technology, our perception of war could have been different and probably without Internet we would never be able to see such operation.
Secondly, modern communication today makes connection between two objects not only easily performed, but also cheaper. As a result, we are capable to sustain constant inflow and outflow of information between two people with little cost and no matter the distance. For instance, teenagers today write more than 100 messages via Twitter and Facebook creating a net of constant information flow between their friends. Virtually, because of Internet we could be connected to a person 24 hours a day.
On the other hand, though we are able to communicate easily and cheaper because of Internet, modern communication today is considered by other people responsible for other kind of distance and lack of ordinary human contact. Nevertheless, Internet really makes people closer no matter distance and time.
In sum, modern technology is considered the best tool for connection and Internet is the best example of this notion.
