Of the 75 people in the auditorium, how many are wearing blue shirts?

The number of people who are not wearing blue shirts is 4 times the number who are wearing blue shirts.
The number of people who are not wearing blue shirts is 45 more than the number who are wearing blue shirts.
Cheers !!

Let people wearing blue be b; and people not wearing blue ben;

Now the prompt: b + n = 75

Statement 1: n= 4b

Put it in the prompt and we get b = 15 and n = 60

SUFFICIENT

Statement 2: n = b+45

Again put in the prompt and get b = 15 and n = 45

SUFFICIENT

So each statement is sufficient

let #blue shirts = n
thus n+4n=75 Sufficient
n+45+n=75 Sufficient.

Good job guys, I actually posted to see if anyone else interprets the problem statement differently. I also solved for D initially but then changed my answer because the prompt says :

"Of the 75 people in the auditorium, how many are wearing blue shirts? "

I erred because I was skeptical whether there were any people with red shirts in there . :P

@cans- back after a long hibernation ?
Cheers !!

Of the 75 people in the auditorium, how many are wearing blue shirts?

The number of people who are not wearing blue shirts is 4 times the number who are wearing blue shirts.

Sufficient

The number of people who are not wearing blue shirts is 45 more than the number who are wearing blue shirts.

This statement looks sufficient but there are few exceptions who are wearing t shirts , it dosent fall under the blue shirts ...since its not mentioned anywhere that 75 people are wearing shirts only.

Please correct me if the approach isin't right here or may be i am over thinking the 2nd statement.

This problem is sufficient: take an Analogy.

Particles inside HBS + Particles outside HBS = Total Particles in universe. So you are wearing blue shirt or your are not. You can wear t shirt, red shirt or go shirtless, in all these cases you are not wearing a blue shirt.
