Slope of a Line

by jayanti » Mon Aug 08, 2011 10:57 pm
Lines k and m are parallel to each other. Is the slope of line k positive?

(1) Line k passes through the point (3, 2).
(2) Line m passes through the point (-3, 2).

IMO E

1) line k can be both +ve or -ve because it can still pass through point(3,2)--> insuff
2) line m can be both +ve or -ve because it can still pass through point(-3,2)--> insuff

Combining st 1 & 2 does n't give any information about the inclination (+\-) of the two lines, which can still be parallel and pass through the given points. -->Insuff

Note: If any other point were given through which line k or m passes, we would know the slope of both the lines.

The answer should be E

Just draw the points, x and y axis, you will realize.
