In the United States, about $5,200 per person per year is spent on health care, while in Britain the amount is about half that. A recent study indicated that middle-aged white Americans have a significantly higher rate of diabetes and heart disease than do middle-aged white Britons. Even after eliminating from the study the lifestyle differences of diet, exercise, smoking, and drinking, the data showed that the Americans have poorer health than their British counterparts.
The statements above, if true, best support which of the following assertions?
"¢ Health care spending in the United States should be reduced by 50%.
"¢ More expensive health care causes a higher incidence of certain diseases.
"¢ The money spent on health care in the United States is not being used effectively.
"¢ The average health care spending for middle-aged white Americans is probably less than the average health care spending for Americans in general.
"¢ Something other than diet, exercise, smoking, and drinking must account for the difference in health for the two groups in the study.
CR Health Care

Stuck between C and E.
if they are spending more why do they have poorer health and i am not thinking that there can be some other factor first. I feel that they are not using their insurance or health care money effectively.
This gives me answer as C
however E also seems a probable choice because then that means there has to be something else which is responsible for the difference.
Sorry!!

Though the OA is not yet revealed, I think its too early to comment on why not C.
Anyways, I think tries to justifies that the health care costs are inflated in US. But from the passage it can be inferred that Americans suffer more from certain diseases than Britons do.
Thus not C.
Hope it helps. Please correct me incase I am wrong.

I see "$5200 is spent on Americans+ they are diabatic"..force5 wrote:Yes you are correct but why not C. why can't that "other reason" be C
We can infer C when we have some statement like
"$5200 is wrongly spent or Americans have no diabetics but money is spent "

OA is E but why D is wrong.
C is wrong as the ques is "Must Be True Question" type and any other outside information is wrong in this question type.

D- talks abt avg spending on middle aged americans. the stimulus gives us avg abt overall americans in general. may be spending on middle aged americans is more and young adults is less, total accounting to 5200$. so this cannot be inferred.ranjeet_1975 wrote:OA is E but why D is wrong.

C- too much assumption invovled. it can also be that if not for the 5200$ used the situation in america could be much worse.even higher rate of diabetes. whetevr it is, cannot be inferred from the passage.

Eliminate everything that can not be verified from the stimulus
A,B,C are out
The stimulus does not either mention anything about Americans in general
E left.Cross checked multiple times
