Break during TOEFL test?

by nehs » Thu Mar 10, 2011 7:22 am
Hi Friends,
I have my TOEFL test coming up in 2 days and the GMAT is a few days after the TOEFL.....I had a couple of questions...

is there a break during the TOEFL test? Are we allowed to drink water/eat a quick snack?
I remember how well organized the GMAT centers are. It is strange that ETS does not provide any such information.

Fingers crossed for your test! Yes, you do get a break, between the speaking and the writing section (third and fourth respectively).

Thanks Dana. So this means that we need to go through Reading, listening, speaking and then we have the break. is that corrrect?
Are we allowed to access our personal belongings during the break? I dont think TOEFL centres comes with a locker.

Yes, you need to finish all three sections before the break. The center where I went allowed me to take some stuff in the break. They didn't have "lockers," more like a table and a coat hanger where everyone put their stuff.

ok, just got my TOEFL score a few mins back. scored a 101.....Not wat I needed. my target school needs a 102, so not sure if I should retake it.

R25,
L20<---- clearly low
S27
W29

I never expected 27 in Speaking and neither did I expect 20 on the listening part. I find it hard to concentrate in the exam because of so many ppl speaking by the time i am into the listening section

Hey congrats! All your scores are pretty good, except for the listening one. Whether or not you need to retake depends on the school I guess - maybe you can contact the admissions office and discuss this with them?

thanks Dana. The funny thing is admissions of the school had asked me to retake it for the listening score, the avg there is 24 and i bombed the listening section again(last time i scored 21). Looks like I"ll need another attempt at the TOEFL. but, before that, like you say, i'm going to contact admissions and see if my score helps. i was waitlisted at one school for my TOEFL listening score and GMAT. Let me see if i can crack the GMAT and prove a point to them so that the TOEFL problem does not exist ;-)
This is all sooooo depressing!

20 minutes, 6 tasks. Using a microphone, speak about familiar topics, and discuss material you read about and listen to.

50 minutes, 2 tasks. Read a passage listen to a recording and then write your response (keyboard typing)
