Taking my score from 700 to 730+

by joyanshu » Sat Jan 15, 2011 5:51 am
I have given the GMAT three times and have scored 700 each time (Q38, V38; Q47, V40 & Q50, V34). I have used the KAPLAN Premier GMAT book and online exams, ARCO GMAT guide and the Offical Guide to GMAT.

I would really appreciate some guidance on which books or courses should I take to improve my score that little bit. Ideally, I would like to give my exam before the end of April, so that I can start preparing my essays from May.

Any comments and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

You have given the GMAT three times ? or the GMAT Prep ??

(Q38, V38; Q47, V40 & Q50, V34)

your fluctuations in Q and V is something which is unseen!! are you real??

I gave the GMAT exam thrice with 700 each time. And yes, the Quant and verbal score fluctuation has indeed been a concern to me.

Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

I have no doubts you got these scores but when did you take the test that yielded: Q38, V38, yet resulted in a 700?

If you take the gmat now I cannot believe a quant or even a vebal score of 38 (without doing exceedingly well on the other section) can lever lead to a 700...

It would be good to know. Thanks.

Oooops!! My bad! I meant I scored Q48, V38. I never got 38 in Quant!! Apologies for the confusion!

The quant has always been stable between 47 and 50, but the verbal has fluctuated from 34 to 40. Only wish I could replicate my highest of 50 in Quant and 40 in verbal in the same GMAT exam. I've achieved these scores in seperate GMAT exams, but somehow one or the other section has let me down.

I have done decently in AWA with 5.5 once and 5 the other two times. My profile is nothing out of the ordinary, just the usual - 4 and a half years of experience in IT ( for an investment bank).

I am really interested in Columbia and would love to study there. I did apply there in October but unfortunately was rejected. I understand that I should have done my essays better, but as I have some time before the colleges reveal the essays for next year I have been contemplating attempting the GMAT once more.

Thanks for taking time to read my posts!

Try a test prep company to focus on verbal?
You know you have it in you

But to get the same score bang on 3 times is
quite amazing. Is the Gmac's algo that accurate?
Wow. Good luck.

By the way do you remember what you scored
On the Kaplan CATs that come with the premier book?
The online CATs not the CD (that tend to be low)

I have the same book but the online CATs
seem to be giving me a high score (higher than any of the other practice
Tests)

Would be grateful if you can share. Thanks.

I gave my last GMAT exam around 6 months back. I was usually scoring between 690 and 720 in the Practice CATs, but cannot remember wether they were the online ones!

Just take more practice exams and become a great test-taker. You already know the concepts pretty well if you are scoring around 700 on practice tests.
