710 (QA:48,VA 38)

Hi Guys!!!

Thanks to you all.I took my GMAT today morning and scored 92 percentile overall.QA : 83Percentile and VA : 82Percentile.
I was really stumped by the kind of questions in the Verbal Section.Dude it was not easy.Quant seemed to be OK.
But as many have reported,it seemed to me as if a slew of tad easy questions appeared in the first 10-15 questions.
I would like to thank Brent,he helped me with his 60Day Beat the GMAT guide,I followed it.I took my first GMAT Prep
On June 26(its my birthday :P) and secured :680(QA:47,VA:37).
Test Details:

Test Date OA QA VA
June 10, 2010 590 43 29
June 26,2010 680 47 37 (GMAT Prep I)
July 21,2010 690 48 37 (GMAT Prep I)
July 24, 2010 620 46 30
August 01, 2010 600 43 31
August 08, 2010 630 46 31
August 22, 2010 640 47 31
August 26,2010 710 47 40(GMAT Prep I)
August 27,2010 700 47 39 (GMAT Prep II)
August 28, 2010 710 47 40
August 29,2010 690 49 35(GMAT Prep II,was very disappointed :()

In sum,my advice to the test takers,do not relent under exam pressure in the last leg of the exam. And specially while taking the test, there were multiple occassions when I felt that something is going terribly wrong with the Verbal section,
but I did not lose the tempo and just stuck to the questions, not wasting too much time. The passages were dense and the Critical Reasoning questions(which I consider to be my forte were also on the tougher side). There was no respite from
Sentence Correction either.I would suggest read the MGMAT SC guide atleast 3 times in full and make your notes.Keep revising the notes,I did not do this, but i think its extremely important to give you that much needed confidence.Would recomment CR Bible by PowerScore,I read it once in full in a span of 2-3 days, and did learn a lot.Its a very well written book.Do not rely on any other non sense for CR.CR book by Manhattan is not worth it.
I know 710 is not a great score but I was not expecting to hit it in my first attempt.I am in a fix now,Shall I retake the test, more so in the light of the fact that my sectionals are above 80% ile in QA as well as VA.
Do advise. And do you think I stand a chance in schools like NUS,ISB,HKUST,York University-Schullic School Of Business,University Of Virginia - Darden School Of Business.I have experience of 25months,in IT industry.I have worked with a financial services firm. And have GPA 8.9/10,10+2 73.2% and 10 th 86.8%.I am an Indian national.Any feedback is welcome.
Thanks once again specially Payal from egmat(She helped me identify my strengths and chalk out a test strategy :)),Brett for 60Day Beat the GMAT guide(I am your fan ;),Eric for founding this amazing site and each one of you who has been an active contributor to this site.

Congrats mats, glad you broke the 700 barrier. It would be great if you could elaborate on your quant prep, and also what mock tests did you take? took them with awa?

Congrats!!!

You have a decent score, so no point in retaking the test. Just focus on your SOP now.

All the best.

Cheers,
gb

Thanks buddy :)
I took each test with the awa, except the second attempt at GMAT Prep II.Quant prep, was mostly about OG,and the Official guide for Quant.I would suggest pay special attention to DS.And do brush up your basics like Time,Distance,Speed, etc. and specially Properties of Numbers.Do spend quality time at the site beatthegmat.com.

thanks for the prompt reply, so all your tests are gmat prep tests, you did not take test from any other prep company?

Hi Skprocks,

Can you shed more light on your discussions with Payal and Brent regarding your preparation strategy. My exam is in a few weeks and my current score is hovering in the 680-710 region (Q: 48-50; V: 35-38). I would like to cross the magical 700 barrier like you and understand what I can do in the next 10 days for the same

Focus on the GMATPrep and try to take and analyze the GMATPrep test multiple times.
Do not overstress yourself, take it easy.
Do identify your areas of weakness, where you consistently score below 50%.
Try to review the OG questions that you did.
Do keep revisiting the concepts learnt.
Do review all question types.

I did not have any other peculiar discussion with Brent/Payal except the ones listed above.Try not to lose your cool.
All the best!!!
