Yes, can you please clarify what the question is. This looks like a stimulus, can you post the answer choices and what the actual question is.reply2spg wrote:First of all, I didn't understand what is your question is and secondly you can expect weaken question on this passage

This isn't a routine CR question with five answer choices. Otherwise i would surely have put in everything.
It is just CR passage. The question is to answer whether the reasoning used by the author of the passage is strong or weak.
I hope i have made things clear.
I wasn't convinced with the answer provided. So thought of discussing it in the forum.
Thanks.

IMO the argument is Strong. It is showing all the steps that help in plankton's existence on earth.sanp_l wrote:This isn't a routine CR question with five answer choices. Otherwise i would surely have put in everything.

What does the explanation in the book say?

Hi all!
Sandy, according to me the reasoning is weak and is most vulnerable to criticism on the grounds that
this cause-effect chain has many links and with each link, which is not deductively valid, the inductive leap increases.
And chain is no stronger than its weakest link. It is easier to find weak link in long cause-effect chain than in short one.
The conclusion is inductively weak.
I hope this sounds reasonable and is helpful.

can we think of situation where cooler surface of the Earth does not benefit plankton?plankton cause the surface of the Earth to be cooler and this benefits the plankton
The conclusion is inductively weak.

I remember this passage. This is one the passage in CR Bible.Right?
The argument in this passage is strong. Is provides the example of species altering the environment.
Altough it does not show highly evolved species alone exhibit this character,It shows it common among the species.
Can you please let us know ur doubt?
Note that in real GMAT u don't need to analyze every CR passage whether the argument is weak or strong. It's time consuming. From the question given[weaken/strengthen] and answer options you can identify the correct one.
