i would pick (B) too! since its not the answer, i think (E) seems the best choice. the only reason why i thought (B) coudnt be possible is theres a comma before "which" i guess that doesnt seem grammatically correct. no sure though.

Is the answer D
"Native of" is used for a individual while "Native to" is used for a large group

The answer Is D

Anybody, explanation please?

I didnt go with D because the use of 'but' seemed a bit awkward to me

I thought not only, but also made a perfect construction to compare the two clauses

A: In correct :because Singular subject "Clearing" will take singular verb "Creates".

B: Incorrect : Same error as A is repeated.

C: Incorrect : Improper placement of "But Also", as this construction calls for parallel element before "but also",but sentence has none.

D: Correct: All elements are parallel in correct fashion - "Systematic Clearing "PP" Created "X" and Gave "Y",But it also Caused "Z". Not only in beginning is not necessary in this construction.

E: Incorrect: Modification Error: Farmland did not provide houses and furniture but "Systematic Clearing" did. Also sentence has unidiomatic construction "Not Only X but it ....

Hope this Helps.

I got it

created should be parallel with caused

so we narrow down to D or E

E has a non idiomatic expression

choose D over E

@Vikas
E: Incorrect: Modification Error: Farmland did not provide houses and furniture but "Systematic Clearing" did.

on this i think
giving...bla bla is acting as a participle phrase
and participle phrase modifies the subject always. So no ambiguity on that

In D, "IT" is trying to refer to "The Systematic clearing of forests". Is it OK that pronoun refers to Noun phrase ?
I am on a break !!

Suman:

It is referring to "Clearing" , gerund form is acting as Main Subject. "Systematic" is just modifying "Clearing".

Thanks

For D to be correct:

Can somebody confirm that 'but also' can be used without 'not only'

See the Stuart response :

https://www.beatthegmat.com/not-only-did ... 11871.html

He was also liking b.

I think B is the right answer as it uses - "not even ..... but also" in the right manner, please elaborate on the answer if you have a better suggestion

Like the orginal poster later recognized, it needs to be "created." So we remain with D and E. E has the idiom error so we need to go with D. Not only...but also is a idiom, but "but...also" can come alone when you are trying to put opposing view. When we have "but also," it does not mean we have to have "not only" as well. But, if we have "not only" we have to have "but also."
