look out this sentence, there are two activities in past and 'some of the rocks' is plural.
so OA is A

I go for E.

In A, although there are 2 events in the past, the past participle is not used with the correct verb... For A to be correct it owuld ahve to say... 'the group FOUND that some of the rocks HAD MAGNETIZED'.

Please, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Brilliant Attempt!! bigmonkey31!

Still E is not correct...See explanation below:

Find out two activities:
1.Group had found...Good catch, started earlier...
2.Rocks were magnetized ...Ooops...Big No! Two activities should be within some reasonable time frame, not like that billion of years difference! :-)
Please note, rocks were magnetized around 3.45 billion years ago while group had found /noticed rocks in 2009! So this option eliminated!
3.Made 'coinciding with the direct evidence for Earth's first life', Yeap...Good catch! This proof was established after Group had found rocks..

Hope this helps.

It has to be 'E'.

Do not use participles when simple past tense could have sufficed.

'Had found' should be used when finding happened before magnetization which is not the case.

Please let us know the OA.

I dont see any reason for A being the correct answer .

Lets suppose we consider A to be the correct one ."A. had found that some of the rocks were magnetized 3.45 billion years ago"

So we use Past Perfect to show that the two events occurred in past and one was in resent past were as the other was still later in past.

Ex : The movie HAD already started when we ARRIVED.

What is the sequence of events in this case .

1st the movie started THEN

2nd We arrived .

So the event we arrived occurs in resent past.

Now lets go back to option "A. had found that some of the rocks were magnetized 3.45 billion years ago "

which event occurred earlier "rocks magnetized " OR "the group found"

Well A suggest that the group finding event occurred earlier and then later the rocks magnetized which is not correct .

So I too will go with E.
"Know thyself" and "Nothing in excess"

Appreciate all for your thoughts!

OA is A

Again providing you the explanation, we should not consider ' rocks were magnetized' as event while formating tense. The two events are as following:

1.Group had found...Good catch, started earlier...
2..Made 'coinciding with the direct evidence for Earth's first life', This proof was established after Group had found rocks..

Hope this helps.

Guys.,..

IMO -- E

In Past perfect tense, "had" is associated with the even that occurs 1st ... since there are 2 events tht have taken place in the past.

In 2009 Tarduno's group had found that some of the rocks were magnetized 3.45 billion years ago-roughly coinciding with the direct evidence for Earth's first life, at 3.5 billion years ago.

The event that took place later is carrying "had" ..+ the senct does not make much sense,,,
