GMAT prep problem 2

by shri_ankur » Thu Oct 04, 2007 1:55 am
If X is not equal to Y, Is (X-Y)/(X+Y) > 1 ?

1) x > 0
2) y < 0

I will go with "E"

Even though when you combine the conditions, you can't decide.
Let's put some numbers when X > 0 and Y < 0

X=2, Y=-3
(2+3)/(2-3) = -5 is less than 1

X=3, Y=-1
(3+1)/(3-1) = 2 is greater than 1

Yes E is the correct Ans.
Thanks.
Is there any other better approach to solve it?
