A) not so much...but instead - not a right structure
B) not so much .... rather than - illogical in this sentence
C) not so much .... than - not a right structure
D) not so much... as.... blahblahblah...... Im not so much disgusted by Obama himself as by his populism :)
E) not so much as .......not so much as ????? whats that?

the correct idiom is not so much X as Y

Hence the answer is D

The GMAT is indeed adaptable. Whenever I answer RC, it proficiently 'adapts' itself to mark my 'right' answer 'wrong'.
