I have a question regarding the OA i.e. C....can some one please help ?

[spoiler]OG clearly say that like should come adjacent to noun that it want to modify...so how can C be correct ?

Shouldn't C be like:
Because of decreased availability and increased demand in scientific research, platinum, like gold, remains expensive.

Instead of:
Because of decreased availability and increased demand in scientific research, platinum remains expensive, like gold.[/spoiler]

Answer Choices:

C is correct in saying that platinum remains expansive, like gold.
If it is said that platinum, like gold, is expansive. It becomes ambiguous that is platinum like gold or is it expansive like gold.

But as far as I remember, OG clearly say that like should follow the noun that it want to modify....can there be exception to this ? If yes, then can you please tell when and how ?
