completely shattered

I took the GMAT yday and scored 530 which is much lower than what I have been scoring in the practice tests. I am completely shatterd as I felt that I was well prepared for the test. I studied OG thoroughly and did all the problems. My scores in the previous tests have been:

MGMAT: 620-660(I took a number of them)
GMATprep#1-640.

I wanted to score at least 650. Don't know where and how to start. I started exploring this site only a day before the test and felt that it was the best available source for the aspirants.

Any thoughts on my problem will be appreciated. My confidence has taken a dive for sure....

Hi shai:

I'm really sorry to hear about your disappointment--it seems like you were coming into the GMAT with some solid practice scores.

Did your nerves get to you during your test? How did you feel during your actual testing experience? Also, was there a particular section of the GMAT where you performed much lower than normal?

Know what you mean

I realized going into my exam this past Monday that my range was a low of 570 and a high of a 640. I figured I would end-up somewhere in the low 600's, but I got a 570. I noticed that for exams I took over 3 years ago, the same thing. I was scoring in the bottom half of my range. I think that nerves has a lot to do with test day performance. I don't know the remedy, but you may want to try taking the test again in 30 days since you are now familiar with the test site. I would take it at the exact same testing center, if you can.

My scores were Q38/V25. I underperformed in both the sections but I feel that I completely bombed the verbal section. I have a good understanding of the SC and the CR but haven't really worked hard for RC as I always scored well in it but it created a problem in the real test. I got too conscious and started losing my focus after that. I felt that the surroundings also have an impact.
I would like to retake the test. What should be my strategy apart from a whole lot of reading for RC . Should I start off again with the OG(I did it so many times........ :cry: :cry: )

It sounds like your nerves definitely got the best of you for this test. I think it's right to review concepts again for your second time around, but I would emphasize taking lots of practice tests as well in simulated environments.

For example--when I was prepping for the GMAT, I would take all of my practice tests in a somewhat busy area of the library--this helped me get used to ambient noise and keeping my concentratoin in public.

Simulate the environment as best as you can during your practices.

Try not to feel too discouraged by your performance--you can definitely recover and do great your second time around!

Will try to do so and keep you posted of my progress.
Which tests do you think are the closest to the actual GMAT apart from the GMATprep?
I took 7 MGMAT tests and have read that the KAPLAN tests are not very relevant.

Kaplan tests are good, but the scores are skewed downward severely--probably not great for your confidence.

PR tests are good...

LSAT Tests

I have heard that the LSAT RC's are godd enough for practise. Could you suggest as to where could I find some free LSAT tests?

I've heard the same, that LSAT materials can be good to practice with--especially the RC. Don't know much about LSAT materials. If you find some free references, can you share them with this community?

I recommend taking a practice test at least once each week--preferably during the weekend, at the exact time slot you plan to take your real test.

It's all about accurate simulation--it works!

Also try the website www.lsac.org - there is at least one free test and some questions/answers with analysis

they've LSAT stuff and are rated good.
