stamp question

by ns88 » Mon May 07, 2007 10:11 am
The price of postage stamps has increased 5 cents per year
every year since 1990. If 10 stamps were purchased every
year from 1998 to 2002, the total cost would be $35. How
much did a stamp cost in 1995?

A. 45 cents
B. 35 cents
C. 40 cents
D. 48 cents
E. 52 cents

The cost from increases by 5 cents per year so the setup is pretty easy

10x+10(x+5)+10(x+10)+10(x+15)+10(x+20) = 3500

50x+500 = 3500

x=60 <---- cost in 1998

so A must be the answer.
