The intrusion of politics into the modern Olympics has created, as it will no doubt continue to, frustration for athletes and fans who would prefer to see the games represent only competition among the excellent from all nations.

(A)has created, as it will no doubt continue to, frustration
(B)has created frustration, as it will no doubt continue to,
(C)has created, and will no doubt continue to create, frustration
(D)has and will no doubt continue to create frustration
(E)has created frustration, and will no doubt continue,

Answer C

I thought it was D

Can someone please explain?
Thanks!

it should be C
D is wrong because D says :has and will no doubt continue to create frustration
"has" cannot go with "create" ----->we need "created" for "has" ,which is not there in D .hence wrong

Hi Sparkles!

Options 'A' and 'B' are eliminated- Reason- the pronoun 'it' has no Antecedent.
Option 'E' is not parallel- "has created frustration, and will no doubt continue".
Option D- The primary verb in this construction becomes "continue" and writing the sentence completely, the sentence becomes something like this-
The intrusion of politics .... has continue and will continue to create frustration.......
The correct form would be -
The intrusion of politics .... has continued and will continue to create frustration.......
Hence option 'C' is complete in meaning and correct in grammar.

Hi Sparkles,
Amend the reason for eliminating option 'A' and 'B'. 'as' is wrong here.

(C)has created, and will no doubt continue to create, frustration
(D)has and will no doubt continue to create frustration
One can take this from meaning perspective too.
X has created, and will no doubt continue to create, Y. Here parallelism marker "AND" too links two independent phrase.
And in D, Parallelism marker AND does not link the verb phrases independently, and also it seems to form the following meaning.
X has no doubt continue to create Y AND X will no doubt continue to create Y.
