Please Help. what should i do?

by saabidi » Thu Jan 15, 2009 5:03 pm
Hey everyone,

I am working at reputable tech company in bay area for last 8 years. I have a bachelors degree in Computer Info systems/business. I recently took GMAT and got 680. My question is that is it worth quitting my job and going to fulltime accounting school? I would like to go to top 5 accounting programs and only USC is in california. I will cost me more money but I personally dont like to go to a part time accounting school.

Where do you think I shoud apply or do? I am really confused.

Please suggest. Help.

Well you said you don't like going part time, so you may want to consider full time. I agree that you learn more as a full time student and it gives you more time and opportunities to network with potential employers.

As to where you should apply to, normally if your goal is to work in public accounting after graduation, you probably don't need to go to a top school. Just make sure the career services department at the schools you look at have strong connections with Big 4 and 2nd-tier accounting firms (check to see if they recruit on campus). Prestige doesn't play much a role in accounting since the CPA will level the playing field for most accountants. However, if you eventually want to apply to a top MBA program or PhD in accounting, maybe you should be attend a well-known program. Check out the Public Accounting Report for ranking.
