Please evaluate my profile.?

Hey there,

I have recently given my GMAT(went in cold as I didn't plan much in advance) and scored 640. I know it isn't a great score but given the time I am not sure if waiting till I give it again is a good idea. I plan on applying for Round 2. Which colleges do you think I might stand a chance at?

10th - 90%
12th - 97.3%
B.Tech - 9.08

Work Experience: 3 years
Software Engineer at IBM for an year
Consultant at PurpleTalk for BA
Product Manager(FoodTech) at a startup for about an year and a half. This product didn't pick up the way we wanted it to, so we eventually landed in services with a hope to work on it better later.

Hi RithikaJ
Thanks for getting in touch! At the 640 level, take a look at schools where your GMAT score is at or above a school's average. You haven't given me your GMAT Q/V breakdown but if your Quant is high (say >46), you may have a bit more flexibility. That being said, I believe very much in a portfolio approach -- put together a list of schools where you have a few reach options where your GMAT is lower than the school's average and then a a few where you're at about the average and then a few where you are above. (Although to be fair, most schools publish averages that are 660 or higher-ish.) I hope that helps and we wish you all the best for your apps!

Hi there - thanks for writing! In order to know which programs might be a good match for you, I'd have to know more about your post-MBA goals, target geography, and what types of experiences/skills you're hoping to gain from the program.

Since you're still relatively early in your career with 3 years of experience, though, I would recommend waiting until Round 1 next year. This will give you more time to prepare for the GMAT (640 is certainly not bad at all for someone who didn't really study, so studying may substantially boost your score!) and also, to focus on putting together strong applications. Given that Round 2 deadlines are coming up so soon, you may not have time to properly reflect on your essays and the other critical parts of the application, so I would definitely consider Round 1 instead.

Hope that helps a bit! If you'd like to discuss further, I recommend signing up for a 30-min free consultation here, where we can review your profile in greater detail: https://www.mbamission.com/consult/?dis ... admissions

Hi Buddy,
Thank you for sharing your profile, but suggesting a program we would require certain more details about your profile like your post MBA goals, your expectations and geographical preference.

You are at the early stage of your career, suggest you think of retaking GMAT and get a better score so that you can receive an admit in top tier b-schools. If you still want to apply with the same score then you can consider Canadian b-schools as most of the schools have 650 and below as the average GMAT .
