Peer Recommendation

by hatemkr » Thu Sep 25, 2008 5:32 am
Hi,

I am going to apply for Stanford MBA for 2009 and I am going to answer one of my peers to give me his recommendation. The issue is that my peer is also applying for Stanford and in the same year, do you think this would affect my or his application by anyway? (Please note that the peer recommendation will not be reciprocal)

Thanks for your help.

Sincerely,
Hatem

Dear hatemkr,

On the surface, having your peer reference for Stanford come from someone who is also applying is not necessarily a bad thing. If anything, the fact that this person agreed to right a letter for you - despite the fact that they are also applying - should demonstrate the level of enthusiasm they have for you.

Of course, the key assumption here is that your peer does in fact know you well (to provide great insight, etc) and that they will in fact write a favorable letter (won't sabotage you, etc).

Best of luck,

Graham
