The cottontail rabbit population in orange county, california, has increased unchecked in recent years as a result of the removal of the negative population and the clearing of sorrounding woodlands.
1. the same
2. years as a result of removing
3. years, resulting from the removing of
4.years, which is a result of removal

D & E are out as they seem to say years are the result of some removal process.
and the clearing of surrounding woodlands, is NOT parallel with removal in A
C is my pick because the increase happened because of another action and the action needs an ing form.
Also, the removing of the negative population
is parallel with
the clearing of surrounding woodlands.
Sounds awkward though
What is the OA?
Diff Q, What does increases unchecked means?

The population has increased as a result of 2 things, so these 2 things should be parallel. And in A, both the causes which led to this population increase are in parallel.
I picked C as well when I saw this in the prep test but I later figured the error. Choice C is a trap making "resulting" look parallel to "clearing", but chocie A is good as it is with both the causes parallel and "as a result of" is more idiomatic. That's my understanding, unless anyone has any better reasons for choosing A.

Here the first choice is not the repeat of the thing given in the question.ildude02 wrote:The cottontail rabbit population in orange county, california, has increased unchecked in recent years as a result of the removal of the negative population and the clearing of sorrounding woodlands.

However, I thought that the correct answer could be either b or c. Resulting from + action is also correct, if as a result of + parllel thngs is correct..
hmm.. but i'd pick C because the stmt before ',' can exist alone too..
anyway why the correct is A? what does A mean? A means the original sentence is correct??

B is not right because it is not entirely parallel ...
as a result of THE '...' OF
B does not have "THE" before removal...
