Of Profile and other puzzles

by cubicle_bound_misfit » Wed Aug 26, 2009 9:54 am
Hi Ms. Blackman,

I completed my GMAT journey with a not so stellar performance. It would be so kind of you if you could answer my questions after taking a brief look at my profile.

Work Experience :

1. 5 years Indian Information Technology Company
2. Out of those 5 years 1 year in India, 6 months in London,UK and 3.5 years (and counting) in two different cities of USA.
3. Current role as module leader for a Business Intelligence project managing 5 people offshore.

Academics : Completed Engineering in Computer Science in 2004 form one very unknown engineering college with cgpa as 8.7/10.

GMAT : 720 ( q44 :-? V 45 )

Interests and achievements :

1. The youngest member of Business Intelligence Centre of Excellence who took part in a pre-sales presentation
2. Client accolades in current project

beyond professional:(and it looks like a long list)
Hobbies in different streams of arts such as : certain genre of music (Gothic Metal, '70's rock, American Folk music, Western Classical, Ghazal)
Certain Authors (Gabrile Garcia marquaez,Stephen King,James Joyce, Richard Yates,Philip K Dick...)
Certain genre of movies and movimakers(David Cronenberg,Federico Fellini,Ang Lee,P T Anderson...)
Certain genre of painting (Impressionism and post-impressionism specially paintings of Cezanne)
Community activity:
Associated with the city's biggest NPO for last one year.
Conducted two CSR initiative for my organization and another one coming in Sep.

That's it.
Thanks a lot for your patient reading this far. Now I have certain questions as listed below. Please oblige me by replying.

List of school selected with reasons :

1. Indiana University (Marketing/Brand Management is all I wanna do, with this score and profile Kellogg/Ross seems to be impossible, therefore)

2. Indian School of Business ( Good ROI, emerging market)

3. NUS ( same as ISB)

4. Georgia Tech (Seems like they hate Indian IT male a little less and if not in marketing IT with prior exp is a safe bet postMBA)

5.Purdue (being in midwest and not eligible for booth/kellogg ...purdue is the last respectable option left)

6.Austin Texas (Again for good job profile in IT post-MBA although it sounds like a stretch already)

So my question is depending on my profile and with the fact that I belong to that Indian IT pool, what do you think about my school selection?

Thanks and Regards,
Cubicle Bound Misfit

Dear cubicle bound misfit,

I applaud you for your thorough analysis of your profile and your self-awareness. I think you have compiled an appropriate school list with the right mix of reach/reasonable/safety schools. On a related note, have you looked at Minnesota as another school for marketing/brand management? The school has gained a good reputation for marketing and your chances would be similar to Indiana.

Best of luck,
Lisa

Carlson School at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis--check it out. You might find it a good fit for your marketing goals.
