Target question: What is the value of n?

Statement 1: n is even.
Possible values of n: 36, 38 or 42
Since we cannot answer the target question with certainty, statement 1 is NOT SUFFICIENT

Statement 2: n is a multiple of 3
Possible values of n: 33, 36, 39 or 42
Since we cannot answer the target question with certainty, statement 2 is NOT SUFFICIENT

Statements 1 and 2 combined
Possible values of n: 36 or 42

Since we cannot answer the target question with certainty, the combined statements are NOT SUFFICIENT

Answer = E

Hi Bharat,

Brent has properly explained the answer to this question, so I won't rehash that here. For all GMAT questions (not just DS questions), it's important to pay attention to whatever information you're given and take the proper notes to stay organized throughout the various steps needed to answer the question.

This DS question was just about listing out the possibilities and figuring out if there was just one answer or if there was more than one answer. Take that mentality into your other DS questions and you'd be amazed how straight-forward most DS questions can be.
