Not over yet(Q47 V41 720)

Yeah improved quite considerably from last time all thanks to the improvement in verbal, but not satisfied yet. I did a few silly mistake in quant, did never thought though that will score so less, basically consistent in last 3 attempts. My last two attempts were all Q47 V37 totaling 690.

I have decided to write it yet again, though preparation in last few month have made me a bit vulnerable to my current job, so will take some time off and write after getting a new job(in case I can).

thank you all very much for your help so far in numerous ways. Particularly in instructors brent@gmatprepnow, ron, Ian Stewart, stuart kovinsky and many more of you and in fellow posters can, sachin, gmatmachoman and many more of you.

I am still puzzled what to do to improve my math. this time I solved almost 2500 suitable quant questions. I am definitely not that poor in quant. I have an IIT degree(well known in india) and have been a known geek for math funda. Today I miscalculated in a few combinatrics problem, did clicked through 1-2 easy questions involving some lengthy calculation but what different should I have done to improve it further is still an puzzle to me. I remember during my engineering days I was well known in class in my math class, but was doing poorly in class tests. My instructor asked me certain questions to explore what exactly is causing such an poor performance. He found a few weakness as I was hurrying up, not completing calculation properly resulting in easy mistake. I was able to improve eventually even hitting perfect scores in his further courses. This time I really do not know whom to get in touch and look for remedy. Any of the instructors if you have any suggestion please let me know. I am still eying a better quant score so that I can push my score to some respectable level. Years of hard work is in balance otherwise.

thanks again.

Tops schools do not care the difference btw 720 and 760.. GMAT's 700 is just a door of entry.. I suggest you concentrate on things behind the door. Behind the door lies the tuff stuff.

HSPA, if you have any specific question then probably I can answer better. But in general I kept myself away from lot of new test prep companies, except a few trusted names that too their mock tests, and I primarily used that for timing, nothing else, probably that helped me. I did worked through LSAT RC passages, a lot, did 100's of CR/sc/rc gmatprep questions on a trot. I do not no if I have anything else done differently. If you have any specific query I will be happy to answer.

Yes my timing was fabulous in verbal , yesterday, I did first 25 questions(containing first 3 RC's) in around 35 minute so was left with last 16 with almost 2.5 minutes per question with only one passage to go.

My quant is even better, but do not know what is happening during the exam.

I am not right away looking for an mba so that is not a constraint right now, if I can improve my quant with current level of verbal I will be quite pleased.

Hey bblast congratulations on your gmat success. Hey I do not know whether to take it as compliment. But old doesn't mean I am continuously fighting it all the time in battlefield...since last so many year. After my last retake in Feb 2010 I was almost sleeping involved in job and all that u know our IT work cultures...and that is almost year and half when I again became active since last few months or so...I am more like pregnant women these days...I heard when women give birth to child the labor is so brutal(and these idioms are from older days when natural process was in place) they do vow not to go through it again, but soon after they forget all those and raring to go again...mine is also quite similar...in last few attempts each time I went for it I just told myself this is the last one... no way i will take it again...and soon after on one or another pretext took it..god knows many a time destiny's are very sudden and unrealistic..who knows something good is hidden in gmat for me...hehehee...

Congratulations for the great score. Awesome.

Are you sure you want to take the exam again? What is the point? Have you spoken to any alum of a good university regarding the importance of GMAT? According to me, GMAT is just a way to assess your academic aptitude as applicants are from different schools(with each school having its own grading systems). You are from IIT. That is more than enough for the adcom to be convinced that you can go through the rigorous curriculum. With 720 you have proved that you are part of the top few percentile. Sometimes a very high GMAT score is looked negatively. Keep that in mind.

Anyway, all the best.

thanks a lot.

your point is well taken, agree there is some hangover. today only I met a classmate who got 720 3 year back applied several places and coudldn't make it anywhere and so again going to try it out.

let me see, before R2 there is around 8 week time, if i feel better prepared i will write otherwise will see. the only mouth watering scenario for me is I am definitely a much better quant person than these figure shows and a few point increase in quant can make me in relatively good position as for as gmat is concerned.

wish u all the best, u r in my fb so do let me know if u hv any further query.

Congratulations!

720 is a great score. May you will find the below story of some interest.

One on my brother's friend (an IITian) scored 720. applied to the Ivy League colleges. wasn't selected. he did his research. prepared a better application.
next year, he again applied to the same colleges with the same score (720). Got Selected. True Story!
