MIS profile evaluation

by DeepakR » Mon Jul 26, 2010 10:31 am
Folks,

I'm very much interested in the MIS program. Following is my profile:

X - 87%
XII - 92%
BE - 78% ( I don't know the exact conversion for GPA format )

GMAT - 660 (V34, Q47)
AWA - 4.5

TOEFL - 102 (R-24, L-27, S-24, W-27)

I have 4 years of experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator in an MNC. Got various awards from Microsoft and frequently involved in community events like organizing a monthly event for our User Group (technical aspect) etc.

I have decided on the following universities. Please suggest some more universities and rate my chances on the below list, which you feel would be appropriate. Also let me know your thoughts on the below.

1. Carnegie Mellon - CMU
2. Univ of Texas Austin - McComb school of business
3. Indiana Kelley
4. Univ of Arizona - Eller collage of management
5. Univ of Texas Dallas

Dear Deepak,

By MIS program, I assume you are looking at MS in MIS programs at these schools and have answered your question under that assumption. MS applicants are evaluated a bit differently from MBA applicants, so that is why the distinction is important.

Based on your post, you appear to have enough experience and adequate grades and test scores. However, you do not note why you want to pursue the MIS program. I think it is possible you could get into at least one of the 5 programs you noted as you have a good mix of reach and competitive schools on your list, but it will depend on how well you write your essays and the strength of your recommendations. Your low verbal and AWA scores on the GMAT, and TOEFL just above minimum for many schools, are a bit of a concern, but well-written essays and a great interview (if you have the option) should help demonstrate your verbal skills.

Good luck,
Lisa

Hi Stacy,

I am very eager to pursue a Masters in Information Sciences from the United States.
I have a total work experience of 19 months with Accenture in Information Technology.

My Academics are as follows:

Xth Grade: 88%
XIIth Grade: 86%

Engineering in Electronics & Communications: 65%

GMAT: 650

I have won many International Debates and I am also ABRSM certified Vocal Student of Grade 5.

I really need help shortlisting colleges based on my profile.

Can you please suggest 5 probable schools that have high acceptance rates for profiles like mine. :)
