Idiom use of likelihood

by Indradeep » Tue Dec 02, 2008 7:59 am
increases the likelihood for imitative violence to erupt
increases the likelihood that imitative violence will erupt

Which is correct?
Also what about likelihood ..will -> Isnt that redundant?

The correct usage would be:
increases the likelihood that imitative violence will erupt

Likelihood...will is not redundant depending on the sentence and an example can be clarified by using this term in another sentence:

What is the likelihood that President Obama will stop the war in Iraq?

Please let me know if this makes it clearer?

Pls post whole Qtn

Likelihood means possibility ( undpredictable)

will means predictable...

Having both is certainly not good.

Sorry, Inamcste. But I disagree with you. Is there an expert in the house that can provide some official guidance? Thanks!

Indradeep,
please post the entire question..

I could find "likelihood that" and " likelihood of"

as correct idiom usage....

Experts any comments ?
