Today was the D-day and it couldn't have been worse that this. I broke all my past records in VA and screwed it up big time. I just scored 21 in VA and that plummeted my scores. In all my practise tests, I was scoring 30-39 in VA. QA had been constant around 49-50.
Don't know what went wrong today. Most of the questions seemed easy. 3 RC's were science related topics with direct answers. SC and CR too were manageable.
Can anyone help me out with a strategy that would help me workout on the VA section. Could it be that i messed the initial questions that gave me a real low score.

Any help or suggestion would be highly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hey Avinash!

Same happened with me y'day................. Q42. V20 GMAT score - 530.

It was devastating and I pitched myself couple of times to believe that it was not a dream. I was shying away to even share the same in this forum, but your post has given me bit of courage to word my experience.

I did all needful to keep myself fully charged while reaching verbal section, which includes writing both GMAT prep in the same way as that of real GMAT, taking complete advantage of break, having energy drink etc...

Moreover, my verbal was going perfectly alright, I was getting difficult questions (at least, I thought so), not breaking up in last 30 mins, attending even last questions with full concentration... but result complete disappointment...

The main problem is - I am not aware where I went wrong in Verbal. I wish GMAC would share my answer sheet like MGMAT - write / wrong, difficulty level, type of question, progressive difficulty etc..

I took date for reattempt and that is 5th Oct. I am not going to leave it like this. GMAT verbal score of 20 is not reflecting my true abilities.

Pl guide if you can for action plan for next 40+ days. I want 650 & would not die before seeing this on my screen

same here,

i took it july 28 and i was scoring in the 93rd-94th percentile on Verbal in GMATPrep. on d-day i scored a 56th percentile in verbal, with my quant being where it was in the practice. i have no clue where i went wrong in verbal, and i have no confidence/stamina issues.

i have a feeling verbal has been made harder after that scoretop.com debacle. this story has been popping up too many times in this forum to not be a recognizable trend.

moderators - prasanna, gabriel, got ideas?

I think everyone should write GMAC and express their concern! I have and am hoping others will too. GMAC needs to take responsibility for this as it's unethical to change the test suddenly. It's unfair to not provide test takers with material if they're going to make a substantial departure from their regular verbal problems.

I'll make it easy for you.... Everyone should write to the address below!

McLaughlin,

I'm retaking this thing. I doubt they will consider the e-mails but I will send one to them anyway.

How did you word yours?

The truth is that GMAC has changed the test without informing the test takers.I saw 5 EVALUATION QUESTIONS in the critical reasoning section of verbal on my test. And this was unprecedented. You need to work harder to pass the verbal test these days.
Further, most of us don't have problem in quantitative section that is why we don't know that real GMAT is no more the representative of GMAT-PREP.I am convinced that top-score issue contributed immensely to this.
Good luck everyone.

Guys this is scary stuff. Can anyone of you share the Verbal experience in detail please? I have read the score top controversy quite a few times on this site.

mehravikas,
Dont be scared.700- 790 is achievable on GMAT.We only need to work hard. There is no shortcut to success.

Mclaughlin,
Below is an example of EVALUATION QUESTION.

In the aftermath of a worldwide stock-market crash,Country T claimed that the severity of the stock-market crash it experienced resulted from the accelerated process of denationalization many of its industries underwent shortly before the crash.

Which of the following,if it could be carried out, would be most useful in an EVALUATION of Country T's assessment of the causes of the severity of its stock-market crash?

A) Calculating the average loss experienced by individual traders in Country T during the crash
B) Using economic theory to predict the most likely date of the next crash in Country T
C) Comparing the total number of shares sold during the worst days of the crash in Country T to the total number of shares sold in Country T just prior to the crash
D) Comparing the severity of the crash in Country T to the severity of the crash in countries otherwise economically similar to Country T that have not exeperienced recent denationalization.
E) Comparing the long-term effects of the crash on the purchasing power of the currency of Country T to the immediate, more severe short-term effects of the crash on the purchasing power of the currency of Country T.

The after GMAT scandal

by LEMAGICIEN » Mon Nov 03, 2008 2:41 pm
Hey,
I recently took the GMAT(29th october) Q: 41 V: 25 overall: 550.
My last pratice test 10 days before the real thing was 730 (gmat prep 2)
Q: 49 V: 41.
I firmly think something has changed. the quant patterns are not really the same.
And the same applies dramatically to verbal: the questions seemed easy for me and my lowest score on practice tests was 32.
I do not really know what happened on the verbal section.
could someone help?
Could someone provide me with more materials on quant section?
I really think that people are better prepared than ever for this test and GMAC can't keep asking questions on the same patterns so something has really changed.
Could anyone provide us with more materials?
Please help!
