by cmr209 » Sun Aug 16, 2009 1:13 am
If 0 < x < 1, what is the median of the values x, x^-1 , x^2 , √x , and x^3

A x

B x^-1

C x^2

D √x

E x^3

Unsure of this one.

if 0< x< 1

we can arrange the sequence in the ascending form

x^3 < x^2 < x < sqroot x < x^-1

median = middle value = x

If you are unsure of the sequence, just plug in x= 1/4

1/64 < 1/16 < 1/4 < 1/2 < 4

Hence A.

Hope this helps.
