Veritas PREP - A must to reach your target score

  • GMAT ScoresBefore: N/A After: 680

got done with my GMAT a few months ago, and now I finally have an opportunity to write a review for Veritas. I studied for GMAT for several months and took courses from multiple test companies (Manhattan PREP, e-gmat, empowerGMAT and Veritas PREP). Though I found Manhattan prep course to be really good, I don?t think that I would have achieved my actual GMAT score, if it were not for Veritas PREP. I signed up for the Veritas LiveOnline and Advanced Courses and was amazed by the breadth of resources that were offered. Though I was privileged to learn from the very best GMAT instructors out there, the video lectures helped build a solid foundation and the Veritas Books helped me hit the top gear. With over 12 books on specific topics, it?s incredible how many problems there are in the Veritas books. I made it a point to solve every single problem and reviewed their solutions until I fully understood them. Daily office hours and constant homework help was also a super helpful resource. There is no limit on the number of questions that you can ask the tutors during these hours. Financially, if you think of it, I got uncountable tutoring hours virtually for free by leveraging this benefit. Considering that almost all GMAT tutors (including Veritas) charge in excess of $150+ for an hour, this was a steal.

The best part about Veritas is the free resources that they offer. The VeritasBlog in itself is a goldmine. When I started studying for the GMAT I had several bad habits. For example, I was always a straight A student through high school and college, and I had this big ego that I could get every question right. Naturally, it was hard for me to guess a question and move on. Also, because I solved most questions the ?textbook way? taught in our colleges I struggled with timing. The GMAT is a brutal test. It punishes you if don?t think outside of the box. Thankfully, Veritas came to the rescue. Through the courses and the blog I learnt to think differently. Specifically the ?Think like the test maker? approach(things such as ?look for the modifier in the conclusion of a CR question, always ask why the second statement on the DS question is there, and watch out for the hidden clues in quant questions such as ?non-negative?) changed the way how I looked at questions. As a non-native English speaker, Verbal was also a challenge for me. I didn?t find sentence correction to be hard, but I struggled with Critical Reasoning. Luckily, the article posts from Brian Galvin and Karishma were a blessing. If you have been active on GMATClub or Beat the GMAT, you would know that they are probably the most thanked instructors out there. I diligently went through the archives and read most of the CR articles from them to understand every critical reasoning question that I could find. Thereafter, I practiced the problems on the Veritas Question bank, which is also free. It took me some time, but eventually I got a lot better at Critical reasoning.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my GMAT study experience with Veritas. I feel that where most GMAT PREP companies struggle is that they either do not have enough good ?GMAT like? questions, or their question explanations don?t make you think differently. Veritas solves all these problems. Not only do they offer a plethora of resources, but also their explanations are top notch. Lastly, their 7 free GMAT tests are the closest things that you will find to the real test. Having also tried Manhattan PREP?s practice test, I felt that while Manhattan PREP tests?verbal is similar to the actual tests, their quant is way harder. They are no way representative of the official tests. If you are an ambitious student and are aiming for a 700+ score, I think you should consider taking a course from Veritas.

Take the full course with Anthony!

I took the Veritas Prep 6-week long in-person class in DC with Anthony Ritz and cannot imagine taking the GMAT without it! I ended up improving 110 points from my diagnostic test and scoring in the 99th percentile, and I am certain that I could not have made the same improvement self-studying. Anthony did an amazing job of teaching specific test-taking strategies that tangibly improved my performance on certain question types, and he managed to do it in as engaging of a manner as possible - the three hour classes definitely went by faster than any of my college lectures! I highly recommend taking a Veritas Prep course, especially if you are like me and need the discipline and strict timeline of a class to keep you on track - my total study time was only seven weeks and I can now focus on applications for the rest of the spring.

I took the Veritas Prep Full Course with Ed Mathews before taking the GMAT. Ed is extremely knowledgable in the ins and outs of the GMAT. He truly provided a valuable learning experience that helped me succeed in taking the GMAT, ultimately contributing to my admission to a top 20 MBA program. Ed truly cared about the success of each of his students, and even went the extra mile after the course was over to meet with us and go over the results of our practice tests. He was also gracious enough to offer me further advice and encouragement after each real GMAT I took. I highly recommend using Ed for any test prep classes and/or private tutoring!

I took Veritas Prep's 6-week GMAT course with Anthony Ritz as the instructor. As a full-time active duty member, I didn't have much free time on my hands and I am 100% positive that without taking this course, I would have scored a 500 (or lower). On top of the already amazing materials that Veritas provides, the in-person 2x/week 3hr class with Anthony is the cherry on top.

During the class, Anthony makes every effort to sneak in jokes to add some energy and keep students engaged. Furthermore, he is truly a GENIUS and loves what he does, which is something truly refreshing in a world where most hate their jobs. I can say with full confidence that IF you follow the advice Anthony provides AND put in the necessary hours outside of class (which I didn't necessarily do haha), you will achieve your goal score.

As a testament to how great the class was, I'm taking it again in a week in order improve my test score. I have no doubt that I will improve because Anthony provides the tools to succeed! I strongly recommend everyone take the in-person Veritas Prep Course with Anthony Ritz! It won't disappoint.

He's a down to earth guy who truly cares about making each individual in the classroom succeed. The skills he teaches you from his own experience + the skills the Veritas Prep books recommend will complement great to help anyone succeed on the test.

I took the in-person Veritas class on Monday's and Wednesdays for 3.5 hours each in DC. Anthony Ritz was my instructor and he was fantastic. He does a great job of making the class interesting and providing great tricks to do well on the GMAT. Before the class I figured the class would drag on but it actually goes by pretty quickly. I took the veritas prep online class before the in-person and the in-person was 100x better. I am very happy I decided to sign up for the in-person class and Anthony was a huge help. He does a great job of going at the right pace and understanding when people are struggling. I would highly encourage signing up for Anthony's class!

When I began my study of the GMAT I assumed that self study would be sufficient and that there was no way I would need a prep course. After flat lining on my performance right off the bat I received the recommendation to take the in-person Veritas prep course from a very intelligent individual I know who, as it turned out, had taken the course previously. I signed up for the in person Sept-Oct 2017 course with Mark Robinson in Houston and without a doubt this was an unbelievably good decision. Mark imparted an incredible insight into how to approach the GMAT and it is a testament to his teaching skills that I feel that I have become a better thinker overall, not just a better GMAT test taker. I achieved a score that I never believed would be possible until it popped up on the computer screen, and for that I have to thank Mark and the Veritas Prep team.

The Veritas prep course is for sure the best course out there.
I did detailed research before I enrolled, comparing it to other courses, but they were simply not as comprehensive and detailed as Veritas.
I am a foreigner and english is not my native language, but still with the help of Veritas and Devin Jones who was my tutor, I managed to get 710 with 41 on Verbal.
Devin Jones was exceptional, I am pretty sure that even though studying resources are really good, the biggest contribution to my score came from Devin's lectures.

Veritas Prep has amazing resources, and Chester was a fabulous instructor. Taking this course helped me understand the format and flow of the exam, the test makers' tricks, and mostly importantly, the amount of effort required to succeed on the exam. I underestimated how much studying would happen after the conclusion of the course, and feel like I could keep studying for many more hours. The additional materials Chester provided (study guides, etc.) have been awesome, and I'll be holding onto all the Veritas materials should I need to brush up on core skills in the future.

I'm very happy with my experience and investment in the Veritas Prep course. I especially appreciated that I could retake the course for free within a year. I took my first Veritas Prep course in 2015 with David Goldstein in Boston, and I scored a 710 on my first GMAT attempt. A year later, I retook the class with Anthony Ritz in Washington DC. Anthony was a fantastic teacher - very sharp and genuinely friendly. He kept classes entertaining and fast-paced with his quirky sense of humor, and he provided me with a tailored study plan since this was my second rodeo. I was able to pick up new strategies from Anthony, and I bumped my score up to 720 on my second attempt. The effort and investment certainly paid off - I'm starting at UCLA Anderson in a week. I would 100% recommend this course to everyone.

Veritas Prep and Aaron Pond, 10/10 would recommend

More than a year ago, I attended a live, in-person GMAT Prep course with Veritas Prep. I was interested in taking the GMAT, but I was finishing up school and realized that I frankly didn't have sufficient time to devote to preparing for the exam. I am so grateful for Veritas Prep's option to re-take a full course within one year. I decided to re-enroll in their full course a year later and this time I really applied myself.

Aaron Pond was the teacher for both courses. He is brilliant. He is a teacher by trade so not only does he know his stuff, he knows how to effectively teach it to students in a memorable way. The live online course was great. Veritas Prep uses Adobe Connect for their live online courses (don't worry if you haven't heard of it - it's easy to set up). Even though it's an online course and students are remote, Veritas Prep strongly encourages participation. To perform well on the GMAT, one absolutely must practice, practice, practice! Thus, in the lessons, students are encouraged to practice through friendly competitions, with points awarded based not only on who gives the most correct answers but also on how frequently one participates. I gave a lot of wrong answers during the course but I was able to learn from my mistakes. Aaron explained very early on that if you make a mistake, don't worry about it, but say to yourself "Congratulations, I didn't make that mistake on the GMAT!"

Veritas Prep teaches that while the questions on the GMAT are based on mathematics and English, the GMAT is actually testing you on your logic, reasoning, and leadership abilities. Aaron explained that the exam tries to "break your balance," just like a game of jiu jitsu. Thus, to combat the GMAT, students will learn about different techniques, hints, and tricks which Aaron refers to as "GMAT Jiu Jitsu." I'm convinced that these bites of logic made the greatest difference to my score. It's simple enough to learn the material for the GMAT but, as Aaron emphasized again and again, it's not testing you on your knowledge of triangles/tenses/graphs, it's testing you on your logic/reasoning/leadership skills. Once I began applying these ideas into my practice sessions, I began to see a dramatic score increase.

In addition to an excellent classroom/online experience, Veritas Prep has hundreds of practice questions and more than a handful of practice exams, offering hours and hours and hours of practice. The company's thorough review of each question allows students to identify their weakest areas and work on improvement. I strongly recommend Veritas Prep - and especially Aaron Pond - if you're looking to perform exceptionally on the GMAT.

Piling on to what others have stated, the Veritas material is great, and instructor Mark Alan Robinson makes this course 5-star worthy! I took the March-April 2016 Houston Full Course and had strong results. Mark keeps the course interesting and teaches strategies that enable success on the GMAT.

In addition to the classroom sessions, there are a wealth of online materials available, including pre-recorded classroom lectures, problems, practice tests, etc. You can do the entire course in the online format, but Mark helps to lighten things up and keeps his students engaged. I had to miss a few classes while out of town on business, but I was able to stay on track by going through the online lectures. The online practice tests are very good and will greatly assist in preparation for the GMAT.

Early in the course, Mark made the recommendation that we sign up to take the exam within a week or two of finishing the course. I did so hesitantly, thinking that I could reschedule up until only a few days before the exam. Of course, I was mistake, so by the time I got around to trying to reschedule, would have been out the whole GMAT fee. I reluctantly went to take the test, figuring that I would need to retake. But upon finishing the test, I was very relieved to have beaten my original target score of 700 (with plenty of room to spare!) Thanks Mark and Veritas!

I would recommend this course for anyone who wants (or needs) to get a high score on their GMAT. The material is very structured, which makes it easily approachable, and there are tons of resources available Veritas' online portal. I personally tend to get better results from in-class courses, so I signed up for the week-night classes, and I am very happy I did. Chester has an awesome ability to make the classes fun/interesting, while providing lots and lots of guidance on how to get through the preparation for the test. And he definitely goes above and beyond to show that he is there to assist with whatever difficulties you might have as a student, from being available for questions anytime, to creating loads of supplementary material to help sharpen up those "trouble areas" you might have. Very happy I spent the money on this course.

Houston Full Course - 1/2017

Veritas has a unique feature that allows you to take the course (hassle free) a second time. When I first did the course, I was steadfast in my engineering "must-solve" ways and found myself constantly fatigued as I'd get to the verbal sections and that took a toll on my final score.
Mark injected optimism and a little bit of magic into the GMAT; taking the mundane and heavy course load and making it into fun examples and eulogies. He taught me that it's ok to guess, and provided tools to help me maximize the chances of getting an answer correct.
While I may not have required the technical parts of the course, he introduced sharper ways to think and conserve energy. The portion that had the most impact on me was how to think like a test maker. This not only calmed my nerves when I was stressed about a question, but also helped me not wallow and manipulate a way through.

I took this class twice, and I have no regrets. Mark is a wonderful educator and great role model to follow. I'd highly recommend anybody looking for some extra help to seek him out.

Anthony is a fantastic teacher- it is apparent when you sit his course that every moment of the program is practiced and the results are apparent. He is a math heavy teacher, a valuable trait given the GMAT's mathematical bias. Even the verbal section ends up feeling like a math problem- this is a welcome thing when on the test because it really helps with consistency and to stave off fatigue (even as one who is desperate to finish the quant section to get to verbal).

If you want someone who is highly invested in the outcome of your exam, and has a great platform to help you succeed, you will be happy with Anthony and Veritas Prep.

I took the local Houston M-W evening class with Mark Robinson. He was a fabulous teacher who did a great job engaging the class late into the evening. I am a visual learner and Mark was always showing how to complete problems in multiple ways depending on your style of learning. He was constantly telling us applicable stories that helped the class make sense of the broader goals of the GMAT and how it prepares you for your MBA program. I also enjoyed the other benefits that Veritas provides around your grad school application. This was completely work with for me and I highly recommend taking the in-person class with Mark!

The best course out there

  • Teacher: Anthony Ritz
  • Recommended forVerbal: Yes  Math: Yes

I took the in-person prep course with Anthony Ritz, so I cannot speak to the online course or any other tutor. I decided to do the in-person course because this specific tutor came recommended to me by friends, and I felt like the in-person would force me to be more engaged. While searching around for the best course to take on the internet, Veritas was one of the more expensive courses I found. However (indicator word), I cannot imagine a more effective course out there. The class was 2 days a week for 3 hours each day (for a total of 6 weeks) and came with 12 books (one for each class). Anthony knows the GMAT inside and out and teaches it exceptionally well. He is quirky but extremely entertaining and self-aware. He constantly made me laugh but never veered off topic. He was NEVER boring, which is impressive considering pretty much every class - grade school through college - I ever took, there were plenty of times where my mind went elsewhere. If you know you are going to take the GMAT, you HAVE to take a prep course. Don't even try to take without doing a course. I don't care how smart you are, the test is all about tricks. And you have to know the tricks to use. And if you're going to take the GMAT and spend the money on the course, in my opinion, it really makes sense to go for the best (even if it is a little more expensive), or else you are wasting your money. Anthony missed his calling as a teacher or professor, so take advantage of the opportunity here!

It gave me the tools I needed to be successful, and having completed the course just a few weeks ago, I feel well-prepared and am very satisfied with where I?m at in the process. The entire course was designed extremely well, so credit to Veritas... but the course is nothing without the teacher. Chester does a great job of explaining difficult concepts in simpler terms, whether through analogies, metaphors or anecdotes. His stories and demonstrations have stuck with me and have helped me to really understand difficult concepts. In addition to the fact that Chester is a great teacher, I believe he truly cares about his students' success and it shows, as he's always available and willing to help. He also happens to be a really cool, funny down-to-earth guy. I couldn't be happier with the course and I 100% recommend Veritas to anyone looking to take the GMAT. Overall, i was extremely satisfied with the course, at first after seeing the price, i wasn't sure if it was going to be worth it, but lets consider what you're getting here. You get 12-in-class classes, an online Student account with practice tests, video lessons, homework problems, detailed solutions to all of the above, and what surprised me the most, 12 mini text books, one on each subject. For the price, the course was DEFINETELY worth it.

My Instructor was Chester Rodeheaver. Chester is a funny dude, who is patient, and does a great job of explaining even the more complicated math in the GMAT. It felt like i learned more Statistics from him in a 1-hour class, than I did when i took Statistics in College.

Before Veritas, i had set a personal goal of breaking 700, but i didn't really think getting close to that was possible for me, now that i am done with the course, i truly feel like i am within striking distance of meeting that goal (Taking it Nov 19th, wish me luck!)

I took the Tuesday/Thursday Full Course with Mark Alan Robinson in July/August 2016. I took a lot away from this class, not just about conquering the GMAT but about life.

Mark understands that everyone learns slightly different, therefore he presents information in several different ways. He has found ways to show quantitative students how to succeed on the verbal section and vise versa. Mark was also very engaging and made me look forward to going to class. He stayed after class whenever necessary to assist with any additional questions, was very approachable, and sent multiple emails to the class asking how we were doing with studying and test taking. It really made me feel that he genuinely cared and wanted me to succeed. Also, his easy personality and openness created a very healthy and interactive classroom environment.

While going through each lesson book within the Veritas course, Mark also provides a great amount of supplemental information and tips that he has attained over the years of teaching and tutoring. I took the GMAT three times, and this last piece is what I attribute my 100 point score increase to.

Simply put, I couldn't have asked for a better teacher. I would recommend anyone interested in taking the Veritas prep course to sign up for Mark's class. It is well worth it.

The teacher, Kevin, was fine. However, the course overall was not effective - I essentially did not raise my score at all. There was so much wasted time in class, the practice problem answers were completely unhelpful, Veritas tried to double charge me with no explanation, the list goes on.

All that was bad enough but then, when I reached out customer service with concerns about my score and the class in general, I was told that I was basically SOL.

It was apparent that this was a small-time company that did not stand by its product, or care about its customer's success. Really regret spending my time and money with Veritas.

I think the one item in particular that goes unnoticed and falls between the cracks, is his ability to teach in multiple ways. For instance, he draws pictures for visual learners.

Additionally, he was very accessible above and beyond class time and typically responds to emails within a few hours.

Besides his teaching style and being available, Mark genuinely wants to see you succeed. He's very honest and direct, not in an aggressive way, but in a manner that encourages you to accept the fact that you have some areas of weakness that simply needs improvement. Let's face it, you wouldn't be taking the course if you hadn't already accepted the fact that you do!

All in all, I highly recommend him as an instructor. His teaching style, enthusiasm and passion for the material and your success definitely helps to bring out the best in you.

I spent 6 weeks after work (7-10pm) with Anthony Ritz preparing for the GMAT. Anthony's class was challenging, but super interesting. Anthony clearly is a master of the GMAT and is not afraid to show it. His class is a fun and lively environment and makes the 3+ hours after work do-able. Overall, it was a great experience.

I took a practice test without any prep. After finishing the course, I had increased my score by 120 points. Mark is a very energetic, natural born teacher. He is able to connect confusing/difficult topics in a relatable way and is full of 'tips and tricks' that help you save tons of time during the exam. I highly recommend not just this course, but this course with Mark as your teacher.

Veritas Prep online full course with Ethan Todras-Whitehill

  • Teacher: Ethan Todras-Whitehill
  • Recommended forVerbal: Yes  Math: Yes

Completed the online course through Veritas Prep about a month ago. With about 2 weeks til my first exam attempt, I feel its a perfect time to rate my experience with my course instructor Ethan Todras-Whitehill.

First of all, living in Hawaii is not ideal when seeking for a GMAT prep course. I was limited to online courses on weekends at 6am :( However, my instructor Ethan made Saturday's at 6am less dreadful than I expected.

Ethan has a "full of life" personality which makes the 3 hour long classes enjoyable! He engages and jokes with his students which gave the course a warm family feel. For example, he dressed up in costume and acted in character to pitch his Great Fool Strategy which ended up being one of the most valuable take-a-ways I got from his class.

For those taking the online full course through Veritas, Ethan Todras-Whitehill is a great instructor!

After continuous research for the right prep course I finally found the right one. I took a leap of faith and tried Veritas Prep. It was the best decision I could have ever made. The material is broken down so well. It's easy to understand and it is built to fit your schedule if you work full time, part-time or if your just studying in general. I invested in the actual course that was offered and the instructor I had was Ethan Todras-Whitehill. When I say I always looked forward to the class after work I mean that! Not only did he make it worthwhile but he also used real life experiences so that you could understand the relevance of the problem. I would personally recommend this prep course to anyone. Trust me it is a great investment! With Ethan as your instructor you can't go wrong!!!

Arash Diba the tutor to go to

Arash Diba was an excellent tutor. He cared about my experience as a student and kept in touch in between sessions about my practice test scores, and looked over any problems I had difficulty with before our sessions. He was great at getting me to streamline my approach to each and every question and was constantly coaching me to think analytically during problem sets - plus he has great explanations that will stay with you when you practice on your own.

Veritas Prep Houston with Mark Alan Robinson

August 26, 2016
  • Teacher: Mark Alan Robinson

I took the July-August Houston Full Course with Mark Alan Robinson. Mark is a great instructor for people that go into the course already performing at a high level. He does not review in depth the basic ideas you are learning, so if you are taking his course it is important to have a decent understanding of the material. The GMAT questions are always trying to trick you, and Mark teaches the ways to see beyond the tricks and get to the right answer in an effective manner. The greatest takeaways I have gotten from this course are the test taking strategies that Mark teaches. I believe the content and style in which Mark teaches provided value that I never could have obtained if I were studying on my own, and that is what I was looking for in a GMAT course. I took a practice exam cold before entering the course and then a few practice exams throughout the course - my score has improved 110 points.

Mark does a great job in engaging students in his class. He keeps the sometimes tedious subject matter upbeat and does a good job of relating abstract concepts to make them easier to understand. He is always willing to answer questions if a student is unsure about the material.

Worth it!

Mark is an excellent teacher, probably one of the best that I have ever seen. He motivates the students in class to get better at what they do in preparation for the test and uses real world examples to strengthen concepts. The Veritas study material is well organized and thorough and very systematically takes the student from fundamental concepts to more challenging questions involving strategy. Mark made the study material more concise and taught us ways to apply certain concepts to recognize question types and patterns. I would definitely recommend Mark's class at Veritas for the GMAT.
