MBA in a Recession
This topic has expert replies
I just got the axe from my banking position and I’m thinking I’ll just hide out in business school until it makes sense to get back into finance. With the economy in ruins, it’s nice to see someone’s offering some admissions guidance for us last minute applicants: Veritas Prep MBA Admissions Blueprint. See y’all there.

Hey guys,
It's looking like lots of people will apply to bschool this year due to the economy. However, I don't think that should discourage you from applying. There is no bad time to go to bschool, as the value of the education amortizes over your lifetime. If these are 1-2 years that you would otherwise be stagnant (out of work, or not moving up the ladder as fast as you would like), then maybe it is the best time for you to do it!
Choosing a bschool is such a personal thing. However, I don't think that everyone needs to go to a top tier school. I used to recruit tech folks for Microsoft, and 5 out of the 6 schools where I recruited were state schools.
In short, if this is a good time for you to go to business school, and your goals don't require the top tier ranking, then apply now!
Otherwise, it may still be a good time to take the GMAT. If you've got some free time on your hands, it might be a great time for you to study. The score is good for 5 years. You may also want to speak with admissions consultants at your goal schools to figure out how you can further shore up your resume while you wait for the applicant numbers to decrease.
Hope that helped!
