MBA/ Career Help

by ChoiOrg » Fri Apr 09, 2010 9:55 am
Hi everyone.

Real quick info:

I just graduated from UC San Diego with a B.S. in Biology.

I was not very interested in biology, however was forced into it. I always wanted to go into business but was not able to study it through undergrad.

Now I am making the transition to business through my work. I am working sales at a biotechnology company in San Diego. I am hoping to work part-time and go back to school to get some business-related class credits.

My goal: I would really like to get into a top business school.

I am a realist, so I'll be very honest.

BIG problems I have:

Low Undergraduate GPA. Under 3.0 in Biology. I was never really interested and shouldn't have pursued it.
I have only pre-med/ dentistry experience.

Some good things:

I am heavily involved in community organizations, and I hope to lead my non-profit organization.

I am getting my Real Estate Sales license right now.

I have great examples to show my motivation to help others in the community and the world.
- I was involved in a huge humanitarian mission with the US Navy in the South East Asia.

Any suggestions on how I should go about in order to get into a great business school other than GMAT?

Question #1a: Should I take classes in micro/macro econ through local community college?
Question #1b: Should I not take community college classes? Look for classes at a 4 year University?

Question#2: Are there any masters programs that I can take in order to prove myself before applying or transition into a MBA program?

Question #3: Any suggestions on how to reach my goals?

Thank you

Andrew
