Alright. Ten years out of school, GMAT with acceptable but not miraculous score (PM me if you must), but EMEA role and a technical background helped differentiate me. Came out of a fairly obscure private American university (CompSci degree) . I travel worldwide for my work and emphasized sensitivity to the cultures I encounter.
I imagine that my extra effort in essays, quality reference letters, and the fact I'm not just a self-loathing dude clawing my way out of a dying industry helped differentiate me.
Other possible factors: I started a business, interviewed well, and showed a positive disposition in my approach to career in every step of the way. The MBA is a career accelerator, not a miracle maker.
If anyone has any questions specific to my experience, I'm happy to answer.
Often times passion exceeds formality in importance, so, make the effort in showing you're differentiated ane engaging...don't be dull!

Wow!!! Congrats for getting into LBS.
Question: Did you seek professional expertise to get your essays done or was it entirely done by yourself -- just curious to know.
All the very best for your next steps.....

Hello there....First of all, hearty congratulations for getting in one of the best b schools.
Would you be able to tell us how the interview was? What kind of questions were asked and how you replied?
I think that would benefit the community as well.

To address the interview process, it was really quite classic stuff about career choices, why I chose LBS, and what I hope to get out of the MBA education. I seem to recall comparing the LBS curriculum to Imperial. I asked questions about the student body, career demographics, and work-life balance feelings.
The questions were very open ended to allow me to tell my life and career story.
I had no professional assistance on my essays, My wife proofread them for clarity and continuity. One hint: read your essays out loud, and if something doesn't sound right, it's not.
To those of you still working on the process, work hard and make your essays and letters of recommendation count!

Im wondering why you had to take the GMAT as in the UK, the GMAT is not one of their requirements for admission into business school or any school. The UK does not put candidats through gruesome exams such as GMAT and GRE.All i am saying is anyone can gain admission without the GMAT at any UK university. Were you told the GMAT would make your application stand out?

You're approaching this with the wrong attitude. Many schools want the GMAT, some do not. It wasn't reasonable in my school quest to expect to do the minimum for the schools I was applying for.makkwende wrote: Hiya,

If you expect to get into LBS with a "do the minimum" attitude, you may want to rethink getting an MBA in the first place.
Sure, the UK doesn't put its students through these exams for typical graduate degrees, but the MBA curriculum and admissions process are fairly common across global schools, and especially of schools of an international credibility. This was a choice to go to LBS, not Croydon School of Business Finance, & Kebabs "where any student can get in!"
Make the effort in putting your best foot forward, even if it's not a perfect academic approach, it matters. If your heart is not in it, they will sniff you out.

You can take a horse to the water but you can't make it drink !!!
Hey,
Heartiest congratulations, and, well I hope to see you there - provided I get admission . Hoping for the best.
I have a question I need help with.
Can you tell me how you answered the "how will you contribute to your first year study group?"
And secondly, can you perhaps give me some insight as to why LBS is a good school for marketing? I'm planning to change career from IT/ENgineering to Marketing and since you have a background in this field, your help with be absolute gold in both these issues.
Thank you, and congratulations LBS is my first choice, and has been for a while for a variety of reasons. I'm really hoping to get in.

Many Many Congrats buddy.
I have two questions:
1) How is Consulting Sphere in LBS. If some one (like me ) is looking for a switch from IT to Management/Strategic Consulting is LBS a good choice.
2) In your batch roughly what percentage people have IT work ex of around 2-3 years. And specifically does LBS encourage aspirants with low work ex to apply.
