Likelihood of 710GMAT

by Mclaughlin » Wed May 14, 2008 5:55 pm
I just took the free Kaplan GMAT practice test and scored 530 without any real math or verbal studying and review.

In y'alls experience, what is the likelihood I could get in the 700 range after taking a class and studying and practicing. I guess I'm asking what the average score increase is if were to study really hard.

I read somewhere that it's easier to go from 550 to 700 than 650 to 700.

anyway, I was just wondering how much people can actually improve. (obviously taking into account study aids/time/practice)

There is no thumb rule on how much a person can improve. Much depends on your capabilities and prep. Your target score is very much within reach.

Look at my signature for my cat scores and my final result. The largest difference was a 180 point spread.

As Prasanna has said, it depends on your capabilities, motivation and preparation.

A prep course is a great idea, but it's really practice that seals the deal.

As a long-time Kaplan teacher, I've definitely seen improvement of 200+ points. I've also seen people come in with a 550 and leave with a 570.

Make sure you utilize all the resources offered by the course (including your instructor, if you need help with content, strategies or your study plan) and practice consistently. 1 hour a night every night is far better prep than nothing during the week and 15 hours on the weekend.
