“With the increasing emphasis on a global economy and international cooperation, people need to understand that their role as citizens of the world is more important than their role as citizens of a particular country.”
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Globalization has greatly reduced the size of our planet and people of nations live more closely than ever. It is important that people understand their role as citizens of the world than as citizens of a country.

People must act for the greater good of humanity than for anything else. Nations after all are separated by man-made boundaries. Some of the greatest inventions have benefitted not just the people of the country to which the inventor belonged. The zero which was invented in India has led to the development of binary logic, which powers all our circuits and computers.

Concern for humanity weighing more than anything else, has never been more pronounced than in a Denzel Washington movie I recently watched. The protagonist heads a nuclear warship and is takes instructions from the headquarters for the next course of actions. His hesitancy to prepare for a nuclear strike, which would kill millions of people and his joy when the plan for a strike is called off are simply mindblowing.

Some of the environmental hazards caused by people has a direct bearing on the interests and safety of people living in any other country. A hole in the ozone layer caused by industrial emissions affects humanity as a while. In this scenario, while such an industry might greatly boost the economy of a nation , the concern should be for the safety of the planet.

In summary I would say that people of the world need to understand their role as citizens of the world and help in the progress of mankind. While the goals of nations might change at different points in time , the goal of humans would always be peace , harmony and intellectual and spiritual growth of mankind ; goals unchanged by the goals of the countries they live in.
