a-
b. except for needing to take one class in historu and one in biology, the student has fulfilled all of his requirments for graduation.
c. the student has fulfilled all his graduation requirments except for one class in history and one in biology.
d. Except for one history class and one biology class, tje student has fulfilled all of his graduation requirements.
e. aside from the history class and the biology class he neads to take, the student's graduation requirments have all been fulfilled.
So i thought C is correct answer, over D, cause D has "class" repeated two times and is more wordy. BUT the Official answer was D! and explanation was not clear at all.

IMO C is much better than D
D has modifier problem - history and biology wrongly modifying the student.
IMO C can be less preferred due to 2 reasons (not great though - it's like unnecessarily trying to find a flaw in the sentence)
1. One history class is shorter than one class in history
2. It is better to start the sentence with Except i.e to state the exception first.
