retake or ok?

by TameGemat » Thu Mar 05, 2009 2:19 am
May be this is the right place to ask. Sorry to repost. I took the gmat last saturday and scored a dismal 580(Q47,V23). Frankly my 4 monthds preparation was 20% quant and 80% verbal. I want to apply for "partitme" MBA in the best schools of los angeles. Will this score be enough or should I retake? I have 10 years experience, but I am male Indian IT professioal. However, my aplication may be above average with good work and community experience. Need sincere advice and recommendation. Is there a cutoff for verbal in buisness schools?

Also, does anybody know or can guess whether more/fewer applications were submitted/acepted this year.

If you intend to apply to some of the "best schools" in LA then you definitely should retake the GMAT and aim for a higher score. Indian males with IT backgrounds are one of the most competitive applicant pools. Even strong community service and work experience will not offset a low GMAT score if it is too far outside of the 80% range.

Maybe it depends on what you mean with "best schools of LA". So far only UCLA comes to my mind (if they even offer a PT program - I don't know). The best is to look at the average score at the PT programs you're targeting. Maybe you're in line or just slightly below. If the rest of your application is solid you might be fine.
