Inequalities x > y² > z^4

by Gdieterling » Thu Aug 13, 2009 4:07 am
Hello guys,

I just took the GMAT Prep Test 1 and got stuck on a question of PS :

x > y^2 > z^4 , which of the following could be true ?

I - x > y > z
II - z > y > x
III - x > z > y

Answers :

I only
I and II only
I and III only
II and III
I and II and III

OA : E

I think this is a picking number one, but I can't figure out which numbers to pick !

Thanks for the insights ;)

P.S : Edited

are those "minus" signs in after I, II, and III?

I guess not..
x>Y^2>Z^4
X must be positive

1)x>Y>z
when all are positive numbers >1
2)Z>Y>X

when all are fractional values
it is possible
consider x=1/4, y=1/3,z=1/2
3) x>z>y
when z is positive and y is negative
x=200,y=-10,z=2
answer E
The powers of two are bloody impolite!!
