In Hungary, as in much of Eastern Europe, an overwhelming proportion of women work, many of which are in middle management and light industry.

I can eliminate A,D and E. but b/w B and C I am confused. What is the diff b/w 'as with' and 'as in'.

B & D have this phrase 'women works' which is definitely incorrect so eliminating them.
D & E begin with 'like much'..i guess it should have been 'like in much...' so E also gone..

Among C & A , I am not sure about the technical error. But in A, 'many of which..' sounds awkward.

So IMO : C

B has 3 problems "as with" is not correct bcuz this talks about place.. the correct one is "As in.."
Also, at the end of choice B we have 'many in....' which is not clear and create ambiguity
on the other hand, 'overwhelming proportion of .....' express the large quantity therefore take a plural verb "work"

C is the correct answer since everything is in its place and the sentence is clear and concise.

The key point in this question is to recognise whether to use like or as. This can be done by rewriting the statement as:
An overwhelming proportion of women work in Hungary,as in much of Eastern Europe, many of which are in middle management and light industry.
Since action is being compared so as would be used instead of like. Hence D and E are eliminated. B is wrong bcos it violates parallelism by using "with" instead of "in". Now b/w A and C, As wrong bcos of usage of "which" (distosts the meaning). C is the best choice

You've successfully eliminated A, D, and E, so I will skip commenting on those incorrect answers. Let's focus on differentiating between answers B and C.

B. as with much of Eastern Europe, an overwhelming proportion of women works, many in
C. as in much of Eastern Europe, an overwhelming proportion of women work, many of them in

The difference between these answers is "as with" and "as in".

If we look at the original sentence, we see that it begins with "In Hungary..." This is helpful in picking the correct answer, because the correct answer needs to follow the rule of parallelism (the balance between two or more similar words, phrases or clauses).

"In Hungary" needs the answer with "as in..."

Hello..

So, I reviewed the answers to this question and wondered whether using 'works' for a singular 'an overwhelming proportion' would be more appropriate instead of 'work'. Can you please help me understand?
