Total seeds in plot I = 200
Total seeds in plot II = 300
Generated seeds in plot I = 57% of 200 = 114
Generated seeds in plot II = 42% of 300 = 126
Total number of seeds in all the plot = plot I + plot II
= plot I seeds + plot II seeds
= 200 + 300 = 500
Generated seeds in total = 114 + 126 = 240
$$Total\ of\ \%\ seeds\ that\ germinated=\frac{240}{500}\cdot\frac{100}{1}=48\%$$

Solution:

The percentage of the planted seeds that germinated is:

(200 x 0.57 + 300 x 0.42 ) /(200 + 300) = (114 + 126) / (500) = 240/500 = 48/100 = 48%
