Imaginary Numbers on the GMAT..??

by camilaross » Sun Mar 07, 2010 6:36 am
I know we are not allowed to disclose active GMAT questions..... and I promise I will not. My friend took the GMAT 2 weeks ago, and she had imaginary numbers on her test. She said the question was along the lines: which fraction is the lowest in value. And then there were a whole bunch of imginary numbers as options.

We all told her she was probably dreaming, but she was very adamant about it... she had memorized the choices but, we did not ask her to disclose...

Can we know for sure this was a test question, or are the GMAT makers allowed to ask new questions, outside the scope of study at any given time?

If I have to study imaginary numbers, I just want to know before hand.....!

How much did she score in GMAT maths section? If she had really got imaginary numbers in the exam,I feel that she must have performed decently in the section.Another possibility could be that she would have got a general question requiring no prior knowledge of imaginary numbers. In that case, the question might have had a sufficient explanation of an imaginary number.

Actually, she didn't d that well, she got 47th percentile on math. She said most of what was on the test was not even seen in the OG. That's what makes me a little nervous...
