DS Problem Translation

by sgraves » Sat Nov 28, 2015 2:55 pm
I'm having trouble translating what the problem is presenting to an equation for the problem. Are there any resources available that help translate word DS problems?

Hi sgraves,

You likely have some specific prompts that you need help with, so you should post them here. In the broader sense, any resource that offers a full explanation with its DS questions (in text format or video explanation) should offer you some insight into how to properly translate questions.

1) How long have you been studying?
2) What resources have you used so far?

1) I have been studying since July.
2) I took a Manhattan GMAT class and I'm currently using Empower.

Since I've made this post I finished the algebra empower lessons and have a better grasp on how to better translate questions :)

When it comes to taking a word problem and translating it into an equation, I sometimes suggest that you write a WORD EQUATION" as an intermediary step.

Here's an article I wrote about this strategy: https://www.beatthegmat.com/mba/2014/09/ ... -equations

Here's a free video on the same topic - https://www.gmatprepnow.com/module/gmat- ... /video/903

Finally, here are a few questions where I've used a word equation:
