If the ratio of apples to bananas is 4 to 3 and the ratio of bananas to cucumbers is 1 to 5, what is the ratio of apples to cucumbers?

A. 4:15
B. 1:3
C. 2:5
D. 4:5
E. 7:6

The OA is A.

I think that a quick way to solve this PS question is as follow,
$$\frac{apples}{bananas}\cdot\frac{bananas}{cucumbers}=\ \frac{4}{3}\cdot\frac{1}{5}=\frac{4}{15}\frac{apples}{cucumbers},\ right?$$
Is there another approach to this question? Can any experts help, please? Thanks!

Your approach is great! But you could also pick numbers.
Say apples = 4 and bananas = 3.
If the ratio of bananas: cucumbers I 1 to 5, and there are 3 bananas, there'd have to be 3*5 = 15 cucumbers.
apples: cucumbers = 4:15, or A

We have that the ratio of apples to bananas = 4 : 3.

The ratio of bananas to cucumbers is 1 : 5.

Multiplying the second ratio by 3, we have:

bananas to cucumbers is 3 : 15

We see that the ratios are compatible: apples : bananas : cucumbers = 4 : 3 : 15

So the ratio of apples to cucumbers is 4 : 15.
