If it is 6:27 in the evening on a certain day, what time in the morning was it exactly 2,880,717 minutes earlier? (Assume standard time in one location)

A. 6:22
B. 6:24
C. 6:27
D. 6:30
E. 6:32

The OA is D.

Please, can any expert explain this PS question for me? I tried to solve it of the following way,

24 Hrs = 60*24 = 1,440 minutes

Question has 2,880,717 minutes = 2000 days + 717 minutes

720 minutes = 12 hrs... But I don't know how can I do for get the answer!

I need your help. Thanks.

Don't overthink this. It's 6:27. We're subtracting a certain number of minutes, and that number ends in 7. Thus, whatever time it was, must have ended in 0. Only D works.

Just look at the last minute digit of both 6:27 and 2,880,717. Both are 7, so when subtracted, the last minute digit will be zero. Only answer D ends on 0.

Let's make a few observations....

If it is presently 6:27 pm, then:
7 minutes ago, it was 6:20 pm
17 minutes ago, it was 6:10 pm
47 minutes ago, it was 5:40 pm
87 minutes ago, it was 5:00 pm
117 minutes ago, it was 4:30 pm

So........
2,880,717 minutes ago, the time was ?:?0

Check the answer choices to see that only choice D has 0 in the minutes position
