My questions here seek to unmask the pros and cons of being a hispanic latino applicant to Top 25 schools that are not members of the Consortium. And, I do understand that schools holistically review applicants. But, I have two questions specially on the stand alone factor of hispanic ethnicity.

(1) On many applications, the question "Are you hispanic-Latino? Check Yes or No" tends to be a stand alone question. It often precedes the more general 'what ethnicity or race are you?' Why is this the case? Is there a reason for this? Should I be worried?

(2) Concerning non-consortium schools, how much does the factor of being hispanic weigh? Namely, are there schools in the Top 25 with large hispanic populations where ethnicity would play a negligible benefit? And, as a corollary, are there school in the Top 25 with small hispanic student populations where being hispanic would add a boost to an application? Which schools?

Thank you in advance,
