hard SC on the test

by tanviet » Thu Mar 07, 2013 2:23 am
I took the test yesterday and feel sc on the test very hard.

I met 2 first sc problems which are very hard. both the first sc contain many private names which makes me unable to understand the intended meaning.

I search on thin forum and gmatclub forum( in the tab "700 leve question"), but did not find any sc so hard. The first sc question I met on the test has 3 private names, which make me unable to understand the intended meaning.

I want to look for similar situation /similar questions in the gmat forums but can not find.

pls show me sourse of hard SC questions which is so hard that when I read the original question, I understand nothing.

in contrast, when I do mock test of Manhantan, I can understand the intended meaning of many sc questions and solve many sc problems though none of the sc questions on Manhantan test is old.

what I want to say is that the sc on the real test is very hard. This situation makes me think that retakers of the test have to do harder tests. I am the retaker of the test. I mean gmat offer harder tests for the retakers.

The GMAT does have data about you when you retake the test but the question selection (from the pool) is independent of your previous performance.

Some great resources for hard SC questions include:

-The GMAT Prep question pack add-on (I've been tutoring off of that add-on a lot...really recommend it)
-The Official Guide verbal review (especially the last 30-40 questions of the SC section)
-The Veritas Prep Advanced Verbal Strategy book (we collected the hardest GMAT Prep and OG questions we could and used them for inspiration...there's some really tough stuff in there and it's pretty authentic)

And one other thought - don't mistake "difficulty" for "authenticity". A lot of independent sources and books out there have hard SC, but GMAT SC is insanely precise...the more official questions you use the better off you'll be. I've seen a lot of people develop bad study habits because the practice material they used wasn't true to the test, so they were chasing content and strategies that didn't really help.

Thank all of you for the posting.

I alway study og, gmatprep for sc and cr. the only I do outside the og sourse is rc. I read a lot newspapers and do many rc passage on the gmatclub and beatthegmat.

Regarding sc problem.

Now, if I open beatthegmat or gmatclub, take a sc problem, even a problem from the tab "700 level" from gmatclub website, I can solve that problem. I can say that I can solve 9 out of 10 problems correctly. and the matter is that when I read the original sentence of the any sc problem I do, I immediately understand the intended meaning of the problem and can solve the problem. but on the real test a few day a go, I can not understand the intended meaning when I read the original sentence in the problem. This situation happpens with 3 or 4 first questions on the test, making me nervous . I am supprised because I never meet this situation when I practice.

I want to meet this situation in practice. gmatprep contain many hard questions but I do most of them alaready. even for hard questions which I can not solve, I still understand the intended meaning when I read the original sentence of the sc problem.

where to find the sc at which I understand nothing when I read the the original sentence. I want to re-meet this situation. my purpose is simple, I just want to get 600+ score which mean I need only 25+ of verbal because I can get math 48+

thank you all of you.
